Grace Over Revenge

Verse of The Day: Romans 12:17

Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men.

In a world where retaliation feels natural, God calls us to a higher way. When we are wounded, misunderstood, or treated unfairly, our first instinct may be to strike back or defend ourselves. Yet Scripture teaches us a different response, one rooted in dignity and goodness.

Choosing not to return harm for harm is not weakness; it is spiritual strength. It reflects a heart transformed by Christ. When we respond with integrity instead of revenge, we mirror the character of Jesus, who answered hostility with mercy.

Living honourably before others means guarding our attitudes, speech, and actions. People may not always treat us justly, but we remain accountable for how we respond. Our conduct becomes a testimony. Every gracious reply, every patient silence, every act of kindness in the face of offence shines light into darkness.

God sees every injustice. Trusting Him frees us from the burden of retaliation. When we surrender our desire to “even the score,” we make room for His peace to rule within us.

Today, choose the path of goodness. Let your response reflect heaven’s values, not human impulse.

Reflection

How do I usually react when someone wrongs me? What would it look like to respond in a way that honours Christ today? Am I trusting God to handle situations I cannot control?

Prayer

Lord, soften my heart when I feel hurt or offended. Help me answer wrongdoing with grace and patience. Guard my words and actions so they reflect Your love. Teach me to trust You with justice and to walk in integrity before others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
