At His Word

Verse of The Day: Luke 5:5

“But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.”

Peter knew the frustration of giving his best and seeing no result. He had worked through the night, used his experience as a fisherman, and still came back empty. Then Jesus asked him to try again.

Nothing about the situation had changed. The lake was the same. The nets were the same. Peter was still tired. The only new thing was the word of Jesus.

Peter could have allowed disappointment to make the decision for him. Instead, he said, “At Your word.”

There are moments when God asks us to obey after we have already tried, prayed, waited, and become discouraged. His instruction may not always agree with what our previous experience has taught us, but faith gives greater weight to what He says.

Peter discovered that one word from Jesus could produce what an entire night of human effort could not achieve.

Perhaps you are looking at an area of your life that feels unproductive. Do not allow yesterday’s disappointment to become today’s conclusion. Stay sensitive to what the Lord is saying. Your responsibility is not to manufacture the result. Your responsibility is to trust Him enough to obey.

When Jesus speaks, obedience is never wasted.

Reflection:

Is there an area where disappointment has made you reluctant to obey God again? What would it look like for you to say, “At Your word”?

Prayer:

Father, help me to trust Your word above my past experiences. Give me grace to obey You even when I do not understand the outcome. Renew my faith in areas where disappointment has made me hesitant. Teach me to respond quickly whenever You speak. Amen.
