Embrace The New
Verse of The Day: Luke 5:36
“Then He spoke a parable to them: “No one puts a piece from a new garment on an old one; otherwise the new makes a tear, and also the piece that was taken out of the new does not match the old.”
Jesus did not come simply to improve our old way of life. He came to give us something entirely new.
Sometimes we approach Christ as though He is an addition to the life we already want to live. We keep our old priorities, habits and thinking, then try to attach prayer, church attendance and Bible reading to them. But Jesus is not interested in becoming a patch on an old garment.
The Gospel announces something far greater. In Christ, we become new creations. We receive a new identity, a new relationship with God and a new power for living through the Holy Spirit.
This does not mean that everything changes overnight. There are still habits to unlearn and areas where God patiently works in us. But the foundation has changed. We no longer belong to the old life.
That is why following Jesus sometimes requires us to release familiar ways of thinking. We cannot keep building our lives around fear, pride, self reliance or the approval of people while expecting the life of Christ to flourish within us.
Jesus offers more than improvement. He offers renewal.
The question is not simply, “How can Jesus make my old life better?”
A better question is, “Lord, what does this new life You have given me look like?”
Reflection:
Are there areas of your life where you are trying to add Jesus without allowing Him to change the way you think and live? What old mindset might God be asking you to surrender?
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the new life You have given me in Christ. Help me not to treat Jesus as an addition to my old way of living. Renew my thinking and teach me to live according to who I am in Christ.
