Verse of the Day: 1 Corinthians 10:23
“All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify.”
The church in Corinth often measured life through a self-centered lens: What am I allowed to do? What do I gain? Their focus rested on rights rather than responsibility. Paul gently but firmly redirected them. Spiritual maturity is not proven by how far we can stretch our liberty, but by how deeply we reflect Christ’s love.
Christian freedom is real, yet it is never meant to be reckless. Something may fall within our rights and still fall short of God’s heart. When knowledge becomes the guide instead of love, others can be wounded. The call of the gospel invites us to pause and ask a better question: Will this strengthen someone else’s faith?
Following Jesus means allowing love to place boundaries on our choices. Growth in Christ shifts our attention from self-interest to service, from personal comfort to communal care. True freedom is not doing whatever we want, it is choosing what brings life, unity, and spiritual growth to others.
Reflection
Am I measuring my choices by what I am allowed to do, or by what builds others up in love? Do my freedoms draw people closer to Christ, or do they place stumbling blocks in their path?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, shape my heart to look beyond myself. Teach me to use my freedom in ways that honour You and uplift others. Help me walk in love, wisdom, and humility. Amen.
