Help Beyond Our Strength
Verse of The Day: Psalm 124:8
“Our help is in the name of the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.”
There comes a point in life when we realise that our strength, knowledge, resources and connections can only take us so far. No matter how carefully we plan, certain situations remind us of our limitations.
But what a comfort it is to know that our limitations do not limit God!
In Psalm 124, David reflects on the dangers Israel had faced and acknowledges that without the Lord's intervention, they would have been overwhelmed. His confidence was not in their ability to overcome their enemies but in the faithfulness of the God who had preserved them.
Notice how David describes their Helper. He is the One who made heaven and earth. The God who brought all things into existence is neither powerless nor overwhelmed by the circumstances confronting His children.
Sometimes, God's help comes through an unexpected provision, a timely encouragement or wisdom to make the right decision. At other times, He supplies the grace and strength to endure what we would rather escape.
Trusting God does not mean we become passive or neglect our responsibilities. Rather, we recognise that our ultimate security rests in Him, not in what we can accomplish ourselves.
Whatever you may be facing today, remember that you are not depending on a helpless God. The One who holds creation together is faithful and worthy of your trust.
Let your confidence rest not in the greatness of your strength, but in the greatness of your God.
Reflection:
When faced with difficult circumstances, where do you instinctively turn for help? Are you learning to depend on God even when His answer does not come as you expect?
Prayer:
Father, thank You for being my Helper and the source of my strength. Forgive me for the times I have depended more on my abilities than on You. Teach me to trust Your wisdom, rest in Your faithfulness and recognise Your hand in every season of my life.
