The Testimony of Scriptures
Verse of The Day: John 20:31
“but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name”
Have you ever wondered why God chose to preserve the Scriptures for generations, allowing us to read about events that happened thousands of years ago?
The Bible is not simply a collection of historical accounts, moral instructions, or inspiring stories. At its heart is God's revelation of His Son, Jesus Christ, through whom humanity can be reconciled to Him.
John makes it clear that his Gospel was written with a definite purpose. The miracles, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus were recorded so that people might recognise who He truly is and place their trust in Him.
But there is an important distinction between knowing about Jesus and believing in Him. Someone may be familiar with His miracles, quote His teachings, and even admire His character without personally trusting Him as Lord and Saviour.
True faith goes beyond acknowledging facts about Christ. It involves receiving God's testimony concerning His Son and resting entirely upon Him for salvation.
And what does such faith produce? Life! Not merely existence or the promise of heaven after death, but a living relationship with God that begins now and continues into eternity.
This should influence how we approach the Scriptures. Every time we open our Bibles, we should desire more than information. We should seek a clearer understanding of Christ, a deeper confidence in His finished work, and a life increasingly governed by His truth.
The ultimate purpose of knowing Scripture is not merely to become knowledgeable, but to know the Saviour to whom Scripture bears witness.
Reflection:
Are you merely familiar with the accounts of Jesus, or have you personally placed your faith in Him? How is your relationship with Christ influencing the way you read and respond to God's Word?
Prayer:
Father, thank You for revealing Your Son through the Scriptures. Open my understanding to recognise Christ more clearly in Your Word
