The Bread of Life
Verse of The Day: John 6:34
“Then they said to Him, “Lord, give us this bread always.””
It is possible to receive what we have prayed for and still remain unsatisfied. A financial breakthrough, a new opportunity, or an answered prayer may bring relief, but sooner or later, another need arises.
The people who spoke these words to Jesus had witnessed His miraculous provision of food. Naturally, they wanted a supply that would never run out. But Jesus was directing their attention beyond physical provision to something far greater.
In John 6:35, Jesus declared Himself to be the Bread of Life. He was not merely offering something that would sustain them. He was offering Himself, the One in whom eternal life is found.
Sometimes, our relationship with God becomes centred on what we want Him to do for us. We seek His intervention, His blessings, and His provision, yet we may neglect the privilege of knowing Him personally.
Jesus invites us beyond receiving His gifts to believing in Him and enjoying the life that comes through Him.
There is nothing wrong with bringing our daily needs before God. However, we must recognise that our deepest need is not another blessing but Christ Himself.
When we have Him, we possess something that no earthly possession or circumstance can provide: eternal life and lasting satisfaction for our souls.
Reflection:
Are you more occupied with what you want Jesus to give you than with knowing Him and growing in your relationship with Him?
Prayer:
Father, thank You for giving us Jesus Christ, the true Bread of Life. Forgive me for the times I have pursued Your blessings more than Your presence. Help me to treasure Christ above everything else and find my satisfaction in Him. Teach me to seek You with a sincere heart and grow in the knowledge of Your Son. In Jesus' name, Amen.
