Make Wisdom Your Priority

Verse of The Day: Proverbs 4:7

“Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.”

Life constantly presents us with things to pursue. We want progress, opportunities, financial stability, successful relationships, recognition and better circumstances. Yet Scripture tells us that above all these pursuits, wisdom deserves first place.

Wisdom is more than having information. It is knowing how to respond to life from God’s perspective. You may have knowledge and still make poor choices. You may have opportunities and still walk through the wrong door. You may even have resources and lose them through careless decisions. This is why Solomon teaches us to value wisdom so highly.

God does not only want to tell us what to do. He wants us to understand His ways. Understanding helps us recognise why certain decisions are right, why some opportunities should be refused and why waiting can sometimes be wiser than moving quickly.

Before making your next major decision, ask more than, “Can I do this?” Ask, “Is this wise? Does this agree with God’s Word? What could this decision produce later?”

The good news is that wisdom is available. James tells us that when we lack wisdom, we can ask God and He gives generously.

Whatever you are pursuing today, pursue wisdom alongside it. What wisdom preserves can often be more valuable than what ambition acquires.

Reflection:

What decision, relationship or situation in your life currently requires God’s wisdom rather than a quick answer?

Prayer:

Father, thank You because true wisdom comes from You. Give me wisdom to recognise what is right, not merely what looks attractive. Help me to understand Your Word and apply it correctly to the decisions I make.
