The Daily Yes

Verse of The Day: Luke 9:23

“Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”

Following Jesus is more than agreeing with His teachings. It is choosing His way when our own desires are pulling us somewhere else.

Jesus did not hide the cost of discipleship. He spoke openly about denying ourselves, carrying our cross daily, and following Him. This does not mean deliberately making life difficult or looking for suffering. It means surrendering our right to always have things our own way.

There will be moments when pride wants the final word, but Jesus calls us to humility. There will be times when resentment feels justified, but He leads us toward forgiveness. Sometimes comfort will tell us to stay where we are, while obedience invites us to move.

The word “daily” matters. Yesterday’s surrender cannot replace today’s obedience.

Taking up the cross means recognising that our lives now belong to Christ. Our ambitions, choices, relationships, reactions, plans, and priorities are placed before Him. We begin to ask, “Lord, what would please You here?” rather than simply, “What do I want?”

Jesus is not merely asking us to give something up. He is inviting us to walk with Him.

And although surrender can feel costly, nothing surrendered to Christ compares with the joy of knowing Him and becoming increasingly aligned with His purpose.

Following Jesus begins with one decision, but it continues through a thousand daily yeses.

What area of your life is most difficult for you to surrender to Jesus right now? Is there something you already know He is asking you to obey?

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, teach me what it truly means to follow You. Help me to surrender my pride, preferences, plans, and desires wherever they compete with Your will. Give me grace to choose obedience every day, even when it is uncomfortable. May my life increasingly reflect that I belong to You. Amen.
