What Really Matters

Verse of The Day: Ecclesiastes 12:13

“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments,For this is man’s all.”

Life can become crowded very quickly. We pursue goals, solve problems, make plans, meet responsibilities and try to build something meaningful. Yet Ecclesiastes ends with a surprisingly simple conclusion. After examining pleasure, achievement, wealth, wisdom, work and human ambition, Solomon brings everything back to God.

Fear God.

This does not mean living terrified of Him. It means recognising who He is, honouring Him, trusting His wisdom and giving Him the rightful place in our lives.

When God becomes central, obedience stops being merely about following rules. It becomes our response to the One we love and trust. Jesus said, “If you love Me, keep My commandments” (John 14:15).

One day, many things that consume our attention now will no longer matter. Titles will fade. Possessions will remain behind. Applause will become silent. But our relationship with God has eternal significance.

Perhaps the question we should ask more often is not simply, “What do I want to achieve?” but, “Is the way I am living pleasing to God?”

A successful life in God’s eyes is not measured only by how much we accomplish. It is measured by whether we walked with Him, trusted Him and faithfully responded to His Word.

When everything else is stripped away, God is still what matters most.

What currently receives most of my attention, and does it reflect the place God should have in my life?

Prayer:

Father, help me to honour You in every area of my life. Give me a heart that loves Your Word and willingly obeys You. Teach me to value what has eternal significance above what is temporary. Let my decisions, priorities and ambitions bring You glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
