When Light Meets Darkness

Verse of the Day: John 1:5

“And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”

God created people with the ability to know and understand. But when sin entered the world, that understanding became clouded. Turning away from God, the true source of light, brought darkness into human hearts. Because of this, people struggle to clearly know who God is, how serious sin can be, and how salvation comes through Jesus. The work of the Holy Spirit and the truth of Scripture are often misunderstood. This darkness has grown stronger through continued wrongdoing and the influence of Satan, who works to keep minds blinded. At times, God allows this blindness so people may realise their need for Him, unless His grace steps in.

Even so, God did not leave humanity without any light. Nature shows that God exists. Our conscience reminds us of right and wrong. These small lights help, but they are not enough to lead us to salvation. Only God’s true Light, revealed in His Word and fully shown in Jesus, can guide us to life. Sadly, many still fail to recognize this Light when it shines.

Reflection:

Am I depending on my own understanding, or am I allowing God’s truth to guide me?

Prayer:

Father God, thank You for loving me even when I walk in darkness. Open my eyes to see Your truth clearly. Help me turn away from confusion and follow the light of Jesus each day. Teach me to trust Your Word above all else. Amen.
