Living Ready For His Return

Oct 10

Verse of The Day: 2 Peter 3:14

“Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless”

There is a difference between believing that Jesus will return and living with the consciousness of His return. We can become so occupied with the demands of everyday life that eternity gradually slips from our thoughts.

Peter reminds believers that our expectation of Christ's return should influence how we live today. The promise of His coming is not merely something to discuss or look forward to. It is a call to examine our priorities, relationships, conduct and devotion to God.

Interestingly, Peter emphasises being found in peace. This is not the absence of life's difficulties, but the confidence that comes from resting in Christ and walking in fellowship with Him. A heart established in His grace does not need to live in fear of tomorrow.

The call to purity and blamelessness is equally important. It does not suggest that we earn our acceptance before God through personal perfection. Our standing with God is through Jesus Christ. However, the grace that saves us also teaches us to turn away from ungodliness and pursue a life that honours Him.

Christ's return should not make us anxious about the future. Rather, it should encourage us to be intentional about the present.

Perhaps there are attitudes we need to surrender, relationships we need to mend, or habits we need to reconsider. These are not matters to continually postpone.

The question is not simply whether we are waiting for Christ, but what kind of life we are living while we wait.

Reflection:

If Christ returned today, would He find me growing in His grace, walking in peace and living according to His Word?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the assurance of Christ's return. Help me not to become distracted by the affairs of this life that I lose sight of what truly matters In Jesus' name. Amen.
