The Eternal Life
Verse of The Day: John 17:3
“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”
What comes to mind when you think about eternal life? Perhaps you imagine heaven, a place where there is no pain, sorrow or death. While these are wonderful promises awaiting believers, Jesus reveals something even more profound about eternal life.
In His prayer to the Father, Jesus describes eternal life in terms of a relationship. It is not merely about living forever, but about knowing the Father through His Son, Jesus Christ.
Think about it. You can know a great deal about someone without actually knowing them personally. You may be familiar with their achievements, words and reputation, yet have no relationship with them. The same can happen in our walk with God. We may know Scripture, attend church regularly and participate in Christian activities without growing in our personal knowledge of Him.
The good news is that God has made Himself known through Jesus Christ. Through Him, we have been brought into fellowship with the Father. Eternal life is therefore not simply a future reward we are waiting to receive. It is a present reality for everyone who believes in Christ.
And this relationship is meant to deepen. As we behold Christ in Scripture, trust His Word and walk in obedience, we grow in our understanding of the God who has called us into fellowship with Himself.
Heaven is our glorious destination, but knowing God through Christ is the very essence of eternal life.
Reflection:
Are you growing in your personal knowledge of God, or have you become more occupied with Christian activities than fellowship with Him?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing Yourself to us through Jesus Christ. Help me never to substitute religious activities for genuine fellowship with You. Open my understanding to know You more deeply through Your Word. May my daily life reflect the joy and privilege of belonging to You. In Jesus' name. Amen.
