Walking In The Light
Verse of The Day: 1 John 1:5
“This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.”
Have you ever walked into a room that looked perfectly clean until sunlight streamed through the window? Suddenly, you noticed dust you never knew was there. The sunlight did not create the dust. It simply revealed what was already present.
There is something important about this picture when we consider the nature of God. His holiness is absolute. There is no dishonesty, injustice, corruption or evil in Him. His character does not change according to circumstances. Everything He does flows from His perfect goodness.
But what happens when our imperfect lives encounter such purity?
Sometimes, we become uncomfortable when God's Word confronts our attitudes, motives or choices. We may even prefer to justify certain behaviours rather than acknowledge what needs to change.
Yet God's intention is not to drive us away from Him. Through Jesus Christ, He invites us into fellowship with Himself. His truth exposes what is wrong, while His grace provides forgiveness and restoration.
Interestingly, darkness cannot overcome light, but light always exposes darkness. We cannot claim to enjoy fellowship with God while deliberately holding on to what contradicts His nature.
The question is not whether we have everything right. None of us does. What matters is our willingness to walk honestly before Him, acknowledge our shortcomings and submit to His truth.
The closer we walk with God, the less comfortable we become with anything that dishonours Him.
Reflection:
Is there an attitude, habit or area of your life that you have become comfortable hiding or justifying? What would it mean to surrender that area to God's truth today?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing Yourself as the One who is perfectly holy and good. Search my heart and expose anything that is inconsistent with Your nature. Give me the humility to acknowledge my shortcomings rather than excuse them. Teach me to walk in truth, embrace Your correction and live in the freedom that comes through Jesus Christ.
